Federal tables
The 18 industries SAMHSA actually published.
Bush and Lipari’s CBHSQ report (16 April 2015) used combined 2008–2012 NSDUH data for full-time workers aged 18 to 64. Overall: 8.7% heavy alcohol use, 8.6% past-month illicit drug use, 9.5% past-year substance use disorder. The list below is their industry set. Where we do not have a clean mid-table percentage on this page, we do not invent one.

- Mining — highest heavy alcohol (17.5%). Brief
- Construction — heavy alcohol 16.5%; SUD 14.3% in that period. Brief

The same report is the reason this site will not claim that teachers or nurses “have the highest rates.” They do not, in these tables. The job can still be why a person waits.
