If the medical is the career, HIMS is the pathway — not a brochure track.
The FAA’s Human Intervention Motivation Study (HIMS) program is the structured way many commercial pilots return to a medical certificate after an alcohol or other substance problem. It is industry plus FAA, not a brand of rehab. A HIMS AME, an approved treatment episode, testing, and monitoring are the bones of it. A facility that has never sent a report a HIMS AME can use is the wrong first stay no matter how nice the grounds are.
Ask, in that order: HIMS AME first, then which residential programs that AME actually uses. Do not let an admissions line “add HIMS later.”
