Accommodations and food services
The industry with the highest SUD rate still has to cover Saturday night.
SAMHSA’s industry report (Bush & Lipari, 2015) put accommodations and food services at the top of the labor market for past-month illicit drug use (19.1%) and past-year substance use disorder (16.9%) among full-time workers aged 18–64. That is the kitchen, the hotel night audit, the bar, and the banquet staff — not a moral ranking of the trade.
The job supplies alcohol, late cash, and a culture that treats last-call as part of the wage. A residential stay looks, from the floor, like abandoning the ticket machine. Ask any program about evening groups versus morning groups only if that is actually how they run — and ask how they handle people who have no paid leave.
If this is family: empty shift drinks and missing morning prep are more useful than a lecture about the industry. Read the family guide.
