Travel-day questions before you drive or fly to inpatient rehab

The day you leave home is not the day to discover that admissions closed at noon, that the sleep address is not the mailbox on the website, or that staff will not take the medicines in your bag. Confirm the arrival plan in writing on the campus’s own number. This page is a question list. It is not transport, not intake, and not a placement service.

If the person is unsafe to travel

Call 911 for overdose, seizure, chest pain, or a person who cannot stay conscious or seated. Mental-health crisis: 988. Treatment information: SAMHSA 1-800-662-HELP. How those lines differ: 988, 911, and SAMHSA. A reserved bed is not an ambulance and is not a reason to keep driving.

Confirm in writing the day before

Use the first-call script if those answers were never written down. Benefits on a plan are a separate call: insurer call script.

Medicines and the bag

Flights, rides, and who may come

This site does not book tickets, send cars, or meet planes. If a campus offers pickup, get the driver’s name, the facility-owned dispatch number, and whether the ride is staff or a vendor. Do not hand documents or medicines to an unnamed driver. Visiting after drop-off is a different sheet: visiting policy.

If an adult refuses to get in the car, stop. Force is not a travel plan. See adult who refuses assessment.

What this page does not do

It does not list facilities. It does not arrange transport. It does not guarantee a bed will still be open when you arrive. Confirm a program on FindTreatment.gov and the state directory.
